If you made 20,000 in your current state, and it suggests 30,000, that means you need to make 10,000 in order to live the same kind of life. They will tell you how much less or more you will need to pay in areas like housing, groceries, and health care.
These kinds of calculators are especially helpful if you are being relocated for your job. Before accepting the job offer, you should run the calculator to see how much more you should be making in order to live comfortably in the new area.
